June 30, 2005 (Thursday) — First day at the festival

We can receive e-mail fine, but can't send so well yet. Today was our first full day at the festival. There is a lot of food to choose from at meals, and breakfast went really quickly. Our first session was 8:30 where we worked on Song for Athene with EJ Yoon, the conductor from Korea. We then had divided rehearsals with each of the directors. The directors seem very pleased with our boys' preparation and work ethic. One conductor asked what we'd be wearing all week so he could be looking for our boys for solid entrances. At lunch they were having crazy utensil day. Trebles are TB's had different schedules today, so you either saw one or the other. We got in a rest period after lunch before some more section rehearsals, then a PBA rehearsal for Notre Dame before dinner, then the first concert of choirs, tonight featuring the Albuquerque Boy Choir, the Columbus (GA) Boychoir, and the Gentlemen Singers from the Czech Republic. They had snacks for us after the concert, and then to the dorms for bed. Tomorrow we've got a lot to do!

Ladles work for tortillas, aright?

Pam drinks her coffee from a ladle.

The abbey had luggage in front of it yesterday, but here it is without the luggage. The big backboard is the carrilon.

We played dodge ball with the Singing Sons of Florida during afternoon recreation time.

Kerry and Tim at rets period.

They're making a sign for the festival with everybody's footprint, so you get your foot painted, then hopt to a space you like, put your foot down, and sign your name.

Pam had the great idea of using footprints for the dorm door signs as well.

Here is the sunset after the concert.
