July 12, 2005 (Tuesday) — A day in Paris then an evening concert

After the concert this evening, it is hard to recall waht we did during the day. We had a smaller audience and the room didn't have a piano (which seemed odd considering the style and scale of the room) so we used our Yamaha which we had brought along. Besides that, it was the perfect room for our choir, and we presented one of our best concerts ever. Our theme was "watch the conductor," which seems obvious, but there can be a lot of distractions on tour. People watched and the choir was more together and therefore more musical and more effective than any time on this tour. The CVs nailed the Poulenc pieces in French, school boys had a chance to sing and sang a practically perfect Nigra Sum with no rehearsal, soloists all hit their marks. Women were brought to tears. Grown men were brough to tears. One audidnce member said they had never heard anything like it (And recall we're being hosted by a music conservatory) and they would be bringin all their friends to the St Sulpice concert on Saturday. One PBA parent who was there said it was worth the trip to France just to hear that concert.

Earlier in the day we had a bus tour through Paris, including a stop at the Eiffel Tower. We had lunch at Planet Hollywood on the Champs-Elysees for a taste of home, and an afternoon boat ride on the Seine. The conservatory provided pizza dinner for the whole choir.

We saw the old opera house (now used for ballet).

We swung by the Louvre.

We passed by the Moulin Rouge.

We saw one of the arcs de triomphe

Gotta lie down to get this angle....
