October 18, 2008— to Miskolc

To avoid being late, given the tractors and trucks on the roads, we left very early Saturday morning for the ride to Miskolc. On the way, we stopped at a shopping center for lunch, then stopped at the Aggtelek caves and even strolled into Slovakia.

Miskolc is a decently-sized city, but there weren't many people to be found. Our accomodations are in a dorm that seems to eptomize the Soviet style. Old TVs, an old washing machine, all still working apparently, "built to last," Carmen says.

Early morning departure

I'm taking photos of Soviet-era cars today

We see a lot of these on the road

Lunchtime in the shopping center

You're not likely to get these kinds of moments on a girls choir tour

In the cave

Run to Slovakia

Ice cream, promised after the Kecskemet concert

Posters for our concert are everywhere

The cave has amazing acoustics and a summer concert series even, so we test out the acoustics

This is our new mascot, Süni the hedgehog. Apparently hedgehogs are pretty popular in Hungary, so our mascot is a hedgehog.

In the caves

At the Slovakian border, which is just outside the cave entrance.

There was a playground at the cave entrance, and the boys mde friends with the girls from another visiting group.
