July 9, 2008— to San Juan Capistrano and Balboa Beach

In the morning, we traveled to San Juan Capistrano for our noontime gig at the mission. It was overcast, which meant it wasn't as hot as in Oakland (95 we hear), but the sky was really bright so everybody was squinting. We sang in a different place than the last time we were here; this time we were right in front of the statue of Fr Junipero Serra, and one of the old walls helped project the sound into the courtyard. The concert went well. We had lunch in town, then a little time to explore the mission, then we headed to Balboa Beach on Balboa Island, where we took the 50¢ ferry across the lagoon. The boys played in the waves, and at one point we freaked out when we saw a fin in the water. The lifeguards did nothing, and we realised there we dolphins swimming offshore, and even jumping out of the water.
