June 20, 2008— from Victoria to Cordoba

We had to get up at 6:30 a.m. for our drive to Cordoba. We slept on the way and had lunch on the bus. We arrived in Cordoba later than we expected, around 1:30 instead of 12:30, and we went right to the Zipoli school to perform for the students there. The Zipoli school is quite remarkable, it's a public school built around music. They start with kindergarteners and go through high school. All the students sing (and if I understood correctly boys whose voices have changed go into the orchestra), so they have many choirs. They have high schoolers that graduate and are certified and/or otherwise qualified to be choir directors. The school has a large proportion of girls, and we flew off the bus into the school's auditorium to the sound of screaming girls. We san, then the school choirs sang, then we sang again for the television crew that came by.

From the school we went to the concert hall to rehearse. We were running quite late, so we only had 45 minutes or so to get everything taped down and check the acoustics. Given that the room was not very reverberant, we opted to pull out our keyboard for the concert. Our recent experience in the studio, we were able to get a good grip on the room. Near the end of the rehearsal, another TV crew showed up to talk to us.

After the rehearsal, we checked in to the hotel. We were defnitely not in the countryside anymore. Cordoba is a big city, and there was little room to unload on the street, but our luggage crew and bus manager do an amazing job so we are able to unload relatively quickly and efficiently on a narrow street in an urban area. We had time for a rest period, then to dinner and then the concert at Ciudad des Artes, a giant complex of buildings dedicated to arts education, everything from ceramics to music.

We're noticeably not as good this year at keeping track of things and following instructions. We have some boys without some music and we had some newer boys not seriously following the hydration instructions, and they paid the price by having to walk off stage during the concert. Hopefully they've learned the lesson now about staying hydrated. As usual, the more experienced boys, regardless of age, tend to ahve a much easier time these early days of tour. Thay being said, the concert went quite well. The Ninos de Cordoba started the concert and joined us for Carnavalito at the end.

We initially thought the concert was to start at 9pm, but it actually started at 10:00pm, so when it ended it was quite late. We headed back to the hotel to sleep.
