7:45 wakeup
8:30 breakfast (buffet!)
to the Sao Bento (Saint Benedict) monastery. They have a Monday concert series at noon. Check out the sign out front (picture below)! We were given the sign, and are toting it around with us. We had only about 45 minutes we could fill with a cappella music. It had amazing acoustics, but much different with people in it. We had some sloppiness in the singing which were covered for the most part by the room and missed by the gracious audience. The audience was about 600 people; there were people standing all along the sides. Continuum got a standing ovation in the middle of the concert after Precious Lord.
Before the concert, we sold 12 CDs. We had to clear out of the room in a hurry because the monks were doing mass at 1pm, but in the seven or so minutes between the end of the concert and the beginning of mass, we sold 59 CDs, roughly nine a minute. While not our best singing so far, it was our best audience. Standing ovation. That's three in a row.
After the concert, we went to a new mall, pretty upscale. There is security everywhere. They're generally pretty nice, but don't hesitate to tell us if they think we're in the way or in the wrong place. My chaperone group had make-your-own-sauce pasta again, ana again there was somebody in line who spoke English to help us out. We did a little shopping. You can haggle even in a mall, and many of the boys bought soccer balls from the sports store. We went to an electronics store and saw an iPod video for the equivalent of US$900. Hopefully it gave the boys a bit of a sense of the wealth of average Americans.
After some shopping, we all got gelato since I promised them ice cream after the Mariana concert. We came back to the hotel for some journal time, rets period, and dinner. After dinner we had a rehearsal/choir meeting where we outlined he rules for officer elections and made a list of eligible boys. Since tomorrow is our first concert with piano, we rehearsed some of the piano music and I did some solo auditions for the music we hadn't done recently.
In beds, lights out.
