Sleep in!

Head to Corcovado (big Jesus statue). You need to take a funicular thing up. Samba guys get on halfway to entertain the tourists. I feel like a sucker, but I have to admit it was pretty cool. Amazing views from the top.

We were on Globo (national Brasilian TV network) at noon about Ipanema concert. Christina says she'll track down a copy for us

Back to the hotel to change for the beach.

To the beach in chaperone groups: four blocks away

Back to the hotel to change. Eek, running late!

To Candelaria for Mozart. We had a run-through. The catehdral is from 1632. Huge, not a great place for fast notes, given the reverb. Things get mushy, think Grace Cathedral. But it's a cool setting, and again the "house" was full. Best guess was 1200 people. The program was different than what we'd been doing thus far, and we were only on for the first half. The audience didn't stand, but gave a huge cheer for the boys. We loaded the bus and returned to the hotel.

I meant to mention the license plate dudes yesterday. These guys appear everywhere trying to sell us knock-off futbal jerseys, bracelets, and license plates. I hope people like soccer jerseys. And soapstone. The Keystone State Boychoir told me about the license plate guys, and there they were, with license plates that have "Pacific Boychoir" and "Brasil Tour" and such. Brillian idea. Someone (Neeta we think) arranged for me to get one, and how can you not buy one? It's brilliant. Here's mine:

Either to or from Candelaria, Corcovado was completely dark. Just Jesus lit up with his arms out. Stunning.

Back at the hotel, we had dinner and sang for Andres' birthday. Boys had unstructured time, we did officer nominations for next year's Head Boy.

Tomorrow we samba!
