Science & Physical Education, Dean of Students
Leo Knudtson graduated from University of California, Berkeley with a major in geography and a minor in education. After college, he received a Certificate of Permaculture design from the Occidental Arts and Ecology Center. The program is structured to empower community members to design their own solutions toward ecological regeneration, social justice, and personal/community well-being, which includes creating a grey water system, designing a food garden to maximize pollination and maintaining soil health by composting and rotation of crops. Mr. Knudtson also completed the City Slickers Farm Internship program in West Oakland, helping to set up backyard food gardens for members of the community. For the past three years, Mr. Knudtson ran a private tutoring company for middle school students focusing on math and science. Part of his services included a rigorous two week high school placement course designed to boost students’ test scores. Mr. Knudtson coaches middle school basketball, including the PBA Panthers, and is embarking on the path of married life.
