Steve Blum

Continuum Director, Day School Music Theory Teacher

Steve Blum studied at California State University, Long Beach (Bachelor of Music degree in jazz piano) and California Institute of the Arts (Master of Fine Arts in jazz piano). Mr. Blum has been involved in the choir world for many years as a choral singer, director, and accompanist. Mr. Blum directs the Continuum, Cantori and Trouvere after-school ensembles, and teaches music classes at the day school. Mr. Blum comes from Los Angeles, where he worked as a multifaceted composer, arranger, performer, and educator. As a singer he has travelled to China with Eric Whitacre, sung in and assistant directed a 16-piece professional choir at First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, and performed at regional and national ACDA conventions. While at California Institute of the Arts, Mr. Blum studied with jazz greats Joe LaBarbera and Charlie Haden, as well as master drummers from Ghana and renowned North Indian musicians. He maintains a commitment to original, creative music drawing on the mainstream jazz canon as well as the influences of rock music and various world music traditions. He is also the music director at Christ Presbyterian Church in Terra Linda.
