Students at PBA study Latin beginning in 6th grade. Our Latin program includes practical vocabulary that allows students to write, speak, read, and comprehend simple, accessible sentences about families, homes, animals, and daily life in ancient Rome. As their study of Latin grammar deepens, they make connections to English grammar and become more confident identifying subjects, verbs, and other parts of speech in both languages. Each year, our students participate in the National Latin Exam, and many of our students have been recognized for their achievements with medals and certificates of merit. Latin class also includes hands-on projects and activities like learning to properly wear a toga, building models of the seven hills of Rome, and writing and illustrating original children’s books in Latin. Many of our students have gone on to study Latin in high school and have been placed in Latin 2 in their freshman year.
