Sorellina: Beginning Singers years, grades 1-3

Tuesdays 4:00-5:30pm
Tuition: $175/month
Directed by: Emily Ryan

Sorellina choristers explore rhythm through patterns, movement, and singing games. We employ Kodály practices, extended warm-ups, vocal play, call-and-response, and both unison and small group singing. With a focus on learning teamwork and the fundamentals of singing (good breathing, listening, and how to read music notes), they are exposed to a variety of musical styles and qualities of singing. In addition to weekly rehearsals, girls are invited to participate in small-group work after rehearsals, to improve their musicianship and music literacy. Sorellina girls perform 2 times per year and have the option of attending our daytime winter retreat in early February, and our summer music day camp, both held at Pacific Boychoir Academy. These activities help them get to know each other better, and dive deeper into theory and other musical concepts.

Sorella: Intermediate Singers ages 8-13 years, grade 3-9

Tuesdays 4:15-6:15pm
Tuition: $190/month
Directed by: Rita Lilly

Sorella girls learn about ease of healthy vocal production, breath, space, and beauty in tone. They sing in unison and up to three voice parts in a variety of styles. They are immersed in music theory and ear training, both in full rehearsals and in small-group work before and after rehearsals, to improve their musicianship and score-reading skills. They develop self-discipline, poise, and teamwork through a traditional choral rehearsal experience leading to proper performance etiquette through performances during the season. Sorella choristers have a lot of fun and achieve a high level of confidence, self-discipline and artistry.

Sorella II: Advanced Experienced Singers, Ages 12-18 years, grade 7-12

Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:15-6:15pm
Tuition: $230/month (includes retreat)
Directed by: Rita Lilly

Sorella Advanced choristers rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays, with their Thursday rehearsal being an opportunity to deepen with more advanced music-reading and ear training techniques. Sorella Advanced girls build upon their knowledge of healthy vocal production through exposure to choral literature designed specifically for treble choirs. They sing in unison and up to three voice parts in a variety of styles. They are immersed in music theory and ear training during full rehearsals to improve their musicianship and score-reading skills. They develop self-discipline, poise, and teamwork through a traditional choral rehearsal experience leading to proper performance etiquette through performances during the season. Sorella Advanced choristers demonstrate a high level of confidence, self-discipline, and artistry through their dedication to their ensemble. Sorella Advanced singers have the opportunity to serve as mentors their “younger sisters” throughout the season.

CAMPS & RETREATS

In addition to regular rehearsals, Sorella girls are invited to attend a highly anticipated, intensive overnight retreat in February, and a week-long summer day camp in late July/early August, both held at Pacific Boychoir Academy. These activities help them get to know each other better, and dive deeper into theory and other musical concepts.
