Young Producers Group (YPG)

Young Producers Group (YPG)

YPG is to improve the creative, cultural, and academic skill sets of students through project-based, interactive, digital music instruction. We are dedicated to fostering fun and creative environment for young people to learn how to make the type of music they actually listen to. By 2020, this new collaborative program with the Young Producers Group will be offered at Pacific Boychoir Academy. Students will discover the joy of making music by learning how to use Ableton Live music production software to enrich their musicianship skills and to write and record their own original songs.

Teacher Model

The Teacher Model includes full access to all of the YPG (Young Producers Group) E-Learning materials noted above with direct support from an experienced YPG instructor.

Depending on the experience level of the on-site teacher, video chats with YPG can take place either every week, once every other week, or once a month.. In these meetings, the onsite teacher can ask questions around specific concepts or techniques. These video chats also serve as valuable opportunities to discuss pedagogical strategies for that teacher and their specific class. With a YPG instructor as a guide, any teacher can bring the joy of making music to any group of students.

Interactive Model

The Interactive Model provides full access to the YPG E-Learning materials and direct support to K-12 students from the YPG team, making this our most comprehensive and involved eLearning model.

While not physically in the room with students, the YPG instructors remotely engage with students as they move through the curriculum by answering questions, providing feedback, and giving grades.

The YPG instructor will be able to track students’ development by observing their performance on the assessments peppered throughout the curriculum. Halfway through a project, students will send in their progress to the instructor for review. This will give the instructor insight into how all of the students are putting their knowledge into practice. Students who are doing well will receive extra materials to bolster their growth. Students that need help will get the individual attention they need to stay on track.

At the end of the project, students will send in their finished projects for the YPG instructor to review in addition to posting their finished work for the class to discuss. An online creative community will form under the YPG instructors guidance where students comment on and ask questions about each others’ work. The instructor will look at students’ finished projects, their growth over the course of a project, their contributions to the class community and use all of that information to provide grades.
